Students will master core firearm safety principles while developing field-relevant marksmanship skills tailored to realistic hunting scenarios.

Day 1 – Firearm Safety Foundation and Hunter Mindset

Classroom Instruction and Cold-Range Drills

• Check-in, gear setup, and mandatory hunter safety certification review aligned with NRA and IHEA standards
• Classroom instruction covering core firearm safety principles in the field
• The “Big Four” safety pillars including muzzle discipline in vehicles and blinds, firearm setup, ammunition identification, and emergency response
• Review of common hunting accidents including judgment errors, tree stand incidents involving firearms, and cold-weather handling failures
• Rifle setup and function checks focused on reliability and safety
• Inert firearm and dry-fire drills covering safe manipulation, vehicle extraction, and buddy-system checks
• Lunch and guided discussion
• Live-fire training covering initial zero confirmation, positional fundamentals, follow-through, and an introduction to spotting trace
• Coaching strategies for becoming a “Safety Shadow” while guiding clients
• Group debrief with video analysis of real-world field scenarios

Goal by the end of Day 1:

• Wind fundamentals for hunters including reading timberlines, mirage over open ground, and building practical dope cards for common hunting calibers
• Lunch and gear optimization discussion covering slings, bags, lightweight mats, and tripods
• Live-fire hunting scenarios with distance progression from 100 to 500 yards
• Application of holds, dialing, and wind corrections
